As a Product Designer Associate at Siam Computing, I craft intuitive digital experiences through research, prototyping, and interaction design. I work closely with teams to design user-centered solutions that balance function and aesthetics.

BeatO is India’s leading diabetes care provider with over 1M users. BeatO is revolutionising diabetes care with a full-stack digital platform providing expert, personalised and convenient care for individuals living with diabetes.&nbsp;&nbsp;

We collaborated with BeatO leadership team to design and implement solutions through stakeholder workshops, lightning speeches, sketching, and anonymous voting, ensuring alignment and team buy-in.&nbsp; My role includes design strategy and research, wireframing, prototyping and usability testing.

BeatO provides solutions from glucometer-based monitoring, care programs for management and commerce solutions for all needs. We created an onboarding journey based on user goals.&nbsp;This increased the day 1 retention score and overall task success ratio.

Care management happened over WhatsApp with users often being confused about what to expect when.&nbsp;Our workflow informed users of key touch points and introduced them to their care team to build trust and familiarity.

We designed a daily lifestyle score to give user autonomy and feedback over their lifestyle choices. In 30 seconds, users can see a quick daily assessment of their lifestyle choices. Gamified elements like streaks and social ranking keep users motivated.

Extending our core finding of giving users autonomy to manage their tasks, we built the todo module to give clear, habit-stacked tasks to users.&nbsp;This allowed them to have a prioritised list of goals. Backed with a leaderboard and badges for achieving key milestones, this puts the user in control, leading to better compliance and therefore outcomes. 

Over the next few quarters, we worked with BeatO team to iterate on solutions we built and worked towards achieving our overall goals.

BeatO Diabetes Care: Enhancing User Engagement and Accessibility

I was thrilled to be part of the team that redesigned SIP Abacus, a web-based learning platform for children aged 6 to 12.  Our main goal was to transform the learning experience, making it more engaging and interactive to combat high student dropout rates.  I played a key role in understanding the user experience issues and crafting design solutions to boost engagement and retention.

SIP Abacus faced a significant challenge: students were dropping off quickly due to a lack of motivation and an unengaging user experience.  The platform, while functional, felt repetitive and boring to its target audience of 6-12 year olds. This not only negatively impacted learning outcomes but also hindered platform growth.  Initial data showed alarmingly high drop-off rates after only a few sessions.  Feedback from students, parents, and teachers echoed this sentiment – a more fun and interactive experience was desperately needed.

Our primary objective was to increase student engagement and retention.  We aimed to achieve this by creating a more enjoyable and interactive learning experience.  Our key performance indicators (KPIs) were:  Daily Active Users (DAU), session duration, and drop-off rate. We set targets to increase DAU by at least 30%, session duration by 20%, and decrease the drop-off rate by 25%.

We employed a mix of user research methods:  student interviews, parent surveys, teacher feedback sessions, and usability testing with children. We also created user personas representing different age groups and learning styles within our target audience.  This research revealed that children wanted gamified elements, more immediate feedback, and a sense of accomplishment.  Competitive analysis highlighted the use of rewards, leaderboards, and progress tracking in successful educational apps.

We used brainstorming sessions, sketching, and user flow mapping to explore different design concepts. The team engaged in lively discussions to create a comprehensive solution.  We experimented with various gamification techniques, including points, badges, streaks, and a leaderboard.  We also redesigned the user interface (UI) to make it more visually appealing and intuitive for children.  Throughout this process, we consistently sought feedback and iterated on our designs based on what we learned.

We started with wireframing in Figma to establish the basic layout and functionality. Then, we created interactive prototypes to test user flows and gather feedback.  The visual design focused on bright, child-friendly colors, simple typography, and engaging icons.  We used Microsoft Clarity to track user behavior and identify areas for improvement.  Several rounds of usability testing with children helped us fine-tune the design, ensuring it was both fun and effective.

One major challenge was balancing fun and educational content. We didn't want to compromise the learning aspect for the sake of entertainment.  To overcome this, we carefully integrated gamification elements in a way that reinforced learning, making the experience rewarding and motivational without sacrificing educational rigor. We also focused on providing clear, age-appropriate instructions and feedback.

The redesigned SIP Abacus significantly improved user engagement and retention. We saw a 40% increase in daily active users, a 25% increase in session duration, and a 30% decrease in the drop-off rate. These results demonstrate the success of our gamification strategy and improved user experience. Post-launch feedback from students and teachers was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the more fun and motivating learning environment.

This project reinforced the importance of user-centered design, especially when working with children.  It highlighted the power of gamification in motivating young learners and the value of iterative design.  The success of this project wouldn't have been possible without collaborative teamwork and a strong commitment to user feedback. If I were to do this again, I'd spend even more time in the initial research phase to fully understand the nuances of the user group's motivations and learning styles.

The redesign of SIP Abacus resulted in a dramatic improvement in user engagement and retention. By focusing on a user-centric approach and incorporating gamification elements, we successfully transformed the learning experience into a more fun and rewarding one.  Future plans include adding more interactive features and expanding the curriculum to further enhance the platform's educational value.
